"Vacant Easter Sunday"

It's always been a 4-Way No-Way Stop
   from the freeway,
   the corner that's forever busy,
   but not today . . .

For the coroner has no leeway,
as he is far too busy on this
   Vacant Vatican
   Sunday Easter,
To notice gas prices dropping faster than
   stocks that won't bond,
products that don't produce to scale,
and start ups that no longer know which way is up.

When I approached that 4-Way No-Way Stop
   I saw no one,
save for one bird gliding overhead,
Gloating,
trying to contain its contempt for a species
incapable of listening to its Elders,
let alone its own gatherers of intelligence.
And wondering
   how long their winged brethren
will be able to breathe so freely . . .
