Michael Smolens has been teaching privately and in groups since 1974 and is affiliated with JFK University, Sonoma State University, and the Oakland School For The Arts. He has written and lectured extensively on Musical Creativity and the Art of Practicing and studied with some of the most progressive teachers today. Michael teaches a myriad of different styles and has coached vocalists as well as nearly every type of instrumentalist. |

He brings a wealth of approaches and perspectives to his teaching/trainings:
from Western and non-Western musical traditions to physical re-training
principles, linguistic-conceptual models, and Sufism. His practical experience
with performing, recording, and bandleading has also informed his teaching. Michael has trained
