I've known these pieces ever since the landmark period instrument
Harnoncourt recording of the mid 70s.
This duo goes far beyond being stylistically informed — the amount
of forward motion coming from the harpsichordist is astounding,
and the expressiveness from the baroque violinist is marvelous.
This is the most compelling baroque chamber music recording
I own, and when I play it for my students (who mostly study
jazz and pop with me) their jaws just drop . . . I could only imagine
what Mr. Bezuidenhout could do with Bach's solo keyboard works!
